In this article I want to focus on organic extra virgin olive oil, probably the most healthy and tasteful category of olive oil. While we have discussed the benefits of olive oil in general in a previous post, this article I will be focusing on organic olive oil and in particular in extra virgin olive oil.
Recently I read that Ancient Greeks used olive oil for skin care well before the science proved it as I described in my article olive oil benefits. The article The Surprising Skin Salvation in Your Kitchen by Dr. Baumann points out that how extra virgin olive oil has the potential to bring even more benefits. In particular, at the end of the article Dr. Baumann goes on to say, “In my search, I have discovered some very special olive products. It is crucial to use extra virgin olive oil because it is made from the first press of the olives and has the highest amount of antioxidants”

Another interesting point I read in this article is that well-designed studies have shown that mice that drink extra virgin olive oil develop less skin cancer after exposure to UV light. They also discovered how topical application of olive oil to the mice skin after UV exposure also decreased the incidence of skin cancer. Basically, the relationship between olive oil and skin health has been proved both in case of ingestion of olive oil and topical application.
The reason I always recommend organic olive oil is because it is the more natural type of olive oil. I would not recommend any other type of oil but I will be talking about the difference between organic olive oil and non-organic olive oil in more details soon!
Curiosity about Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Recently I saw a question on yahoo answers which made me laugh a little and consider the amount of misinformation can be found on the web. Somebody was asking “does this organic extra virgin olive oil really make your hair grow?”. Well, I am afraid to disappoint the olive oil fellow but even if many are the benefits of olive oil, no, it will not help him growing his hair, but will definitively help many other parts of his health!
